Carved out of a rock bluff, this house sits some 50 ft above the sea. Walls of glass are perched over the ocean’s edge to allow direct views across the ocean to Bowen Island with peaks of Vancouver Island and Howe Sound in the distance. This was an unusually demanding project as rock faces are exposed in several rooms; the doors and windows built in the Calrudd workshop were finely detailed and the roof framing demanded exceptional precision and finesse. Vaulted wood ceilings with exposed beams are accented by edge-grain douglas fir windows and doors crafted in the Calrudd Millwork shop. 7 fireplaces, built-in custom Calrudd cabinetry, many skylights, honed granite, and copper roofing create a truly remarkable home.
